Location: London, United Kingdom
Type: Sculptures in Marble
Architect: Cartwright Pickard
Project: Life on Mars
Description:
Carved in Stone - Life on Mars is an event for the London Design Festival, organized by Cosentino where each of the most important architecture studios in the United Kingdom, reflected their conception of life on Mars in a cube in white marble. In this project we can see the spectacular design made by Cartwright Pickard and finally realized by Cuellar Stone .
The Chasm, observes a period of self-reflection. As we can contemplate a new chapter on Mars, we must reflect upon the challenges of our past, and focus on creating a more sustainable, conscious civilisation.
The concept behind the sculpture explores the idea of dividing a whole and being at one with its possibilities. The intricacies of the internal face are inspired by the cell structure of a tree and contrasted against the simplicity of the overall form.
The design tries to be as natural as possible (as a response to our responsibility with sustainability) on the outside, and hand carved by Cuellar Stone's artisans on the outside.
